Coquerel Calvados VSOP is where Domaine du Coquerel's signature house style truly hits its stride — a 89-point blend that took the founder's grandfather a lifetime of craft to perfect. "A great Calvados is first and foremost a great cider," the family says — and the VSOP is built to prove it. A blend of approximately 40 different apple and pear varieties naturally fermented for a minimum of 30 days, distilled in traditional copper stills, then rested in large French oak foudres for three to six months before maturing a minimum of four years in heavily charred 200-liter French oak barrels — specifically chosen to extract more color, spices, honey, vanilla, and silkiness than the Fine expression delivers. The nose is immersive and complex with cooked apple, apple stalks, apple compote, vanilla, subtle clove, and fruit bread with beautiful honey sweetness and ginger emerging with time, while the palate brings candied fruit, soft spices, baked apple, oak, and pear — finishing long and gourmet with dried fruits. Bottled at 40% ABV — brilliant as a Normandy Mule with ginger beer and lime, superb in a Calvados Sour, and genuinely rewarding sipped neat after a meal.
