A Café Racer Legacy
The Café Racer jacket has its roots in post-WWII England, where returning soldiers began customizing pre-war motorcycles for high-speed races between local pubs and cafés. This led to the need for a streamlined, minimalist leather racing jacket, offering protection and flexibility for riders who often pushed speeds over 100 MPH.
Schott has been crafting Café Racer-style jackets since 1956, starting with the Model 666 RS for Beck, which was originally called a "Leather Racing Shirt" and retailed for just $28.95. Schott later introduced its own version, the Model 641XX, featuring symmetrical zippered chest pockets, an adjustable snap collar strap, and zippered sleeve cuffs. Over the years, these jackets were worn, broken in, and passed down, with many vintage examples still surviving today.
The Model 530 continues this storied tradition, maintaining the tight-fitting, no-frills design that defines the Café Racer aesthetic. Crafted for riders, rebels, and those who appreciate timeless style, this jacket is built to age beautifully and make a statement wherever it’s worn.
